Checking email addresses on international and New gTLD domains

When registering international domains, a Whois contact is created, which contains contact information about the domain administrator. Contact details are available for viewing in the Whois service. This is a requirement of the international organization ICANN, which coordinates the Internet domain name system. ICANN blocks domains with invalid or incomplete contact information. According to the ICANN rules, the registrar checks the e-mail specified in the Whois contacts of the administrator of the international or New gTLD domain.

How does the e-mail verification work?

The e-mail specified in the Whois contact of the Registrant type is checked in the personal account in the Account → Whois-contacts section.

Verification is carried out within 15 days after:

• domain registration;
• transferring the domain to Rucenter from another registrar.

An email with a link is automatically sent to the e-mail that is subject to verification. To confirm the e-mail, click on the link. If the e-mail has been confirmed once, then its re-verification is not performed.

What should I do if I did not receive an email with a confirmation link / accidentally deleted the email?

You can request an e-mail confirmation letter through your personal account. For this:

1. Log in to your personal account using the contract number and password.

2. Select the Domains section.

3. Click the link with the domain name for which you want to confirm the e-mail.

4. On the page that opens, click the Send Email link. An email with a link will be sent to the specified email address. To confirm the e-mail, click on the link in the email.

What happens if you don't confirm your e-mail?

If the e-mail has not been confirmed within 15 days, then:

• if a new domain has been registered, it is blocked;
• if the domain was transferred from another registrar, it is blocked.

Blocking is the removal of a domain from delegation, which will be restored only when the e-mail specified on the domain is confirmed.

What should I do if the lock has not been lifted after confirming the e-mail / the status "E-mail has not been confirmed" remains?

The lock is lifted within 1 hour. If this has not happened, it is likely that the domain uses a different, not yet confirmed, email address.

If the status "E-mail not confirmed" remains, it is likely that you have confirmed an e-mail that has been replaced with another one and is no longer used on domains. However, the new e-mail has not yet been confirmed.

In both cases, we recommend doing one of the following:

• confirm the email address by requesting an email with a confirmation link through your personal account;
• change the e-mail used on the domain to an already verified one.

How do I change the e-mail on the domain?

To change the e-mail in Whois contacts:

1. Log in to your personal account using the contract number and password.

2. Select Account → Whois-сontacts.

3. Find the line with the desired contact, click the Change link.

4. Enter a new e-mail address and click Save changes.

To change the e-mail in the Registrant whois contact, you must approve the operation from both e-mail addresses. Emails will be sent to the old and new addresses with a request to confirm the change of e-mail. Within 7 calendar days, you must click the Confirm e-mail change links in the emails, otherwise the e-mail change request will be canceled.

If the previous e-mail is unavailable and you cannot receive a confirmation email to it, select confirmation via SMS. To do this, after changing the email address, in the Contract → Whois-contacts section, select the option I do not have access to the previous e-mail. An SMS message with the transaction confirmation code will be sent to the phone number specified in this Whois contact. The operation will be completed after confirmation by SMS and clicking on the link sent to the new e-mail.
