What is domain reservation?

After the expiration date, a registrant can renew his/her domain name during the renewal grace period, which lasts 30 days. With the domain reservation option enabled, the registrant will have an additional 30 days to restore the domain.

What domains can reservation be enabled for?

Reservation can be enabled for .RU, .РФ, .SU, and third-level domains.

What domains is reservation strongly recommended for?

We recommend enabling the reservation option for valuable domains. Short and eye-catching domain names are closely monitored by resellers and usually scooped up as soon as they are deleted. To get a domain back, its previous owner will need to negotiate the buyback with a new owner. The cost of domain repurchase can reach hundreds of thousands of rubles. With the domain reservation option enabled, a domain name will not be deleted after the renewal grace period, and its registrant will have an additional 30 days to restore it.

What happens to a domain once the renewal grace period expires?

In case a registrant fails to renew a domain name within 30 days of the renewal grace period:

• With the domain reservation option enabled, the registrant will have an additional 30 days to restore his/her domain name. During this period, a status page will be displayed for the domain and domain settings cannot be changed. The registrant can order domain recovery on the domain page in the “Manage your account" section. If domain recovery is paid for within 30 days, the NS records set before the domain expiration date will be restored, the website will continue functioning, and the domain name will be available again in the “Manage your account" section. In case of a failure to pay for the domain redemption, the ownership right to the domain name will be forfeited based on the registrant’s written request. The sample request is available on the domain page in the "Manage your account" section.
• If the reservation option is not enabled for the domain, it will be removed in accordance with the queue order and become available for registration.

What is the domain redemption period?

With the reservation option enabled, in case the domain is not renewed within 30 days after the domain expiration date (the renewal grace period), its registrant has an additional 30 days to restore the domain — the redemption period. If the domain name is not restored during this period as well, the ownership right to the domain will be lost.

Who can enable domain reservation?

Only the domain registrant can enable the reservation option.

When can the reservation option be enabled?

From domain registration date until the end of the renewal grace period.

How does a registrant enable reservation?

Registrants can enable the option on the domain page in the “Manage your account” section.

How does a registrant disable reservation?

Since registrants are no longer allowed to restore their domains once the reservation option is disabled, they need to sign and deliver an application to RU-CENTER office.

To restore your domain:

1. Go to “Manage your account → Services → My domains” section.

2. Select the domain.

3. Click on "Restore".

4. Pay for domain recovery.

5. As soon as the domain is restored, you will be notified by email.
