What do I do to avoid website reinfection?
To avoid the reinfection of your website:
- check the computers from which the website was administered for malware;
- analyze HTTP access logs (located in the directory /var/log/) for requests to vulnerable website scripts or unusual POST requests that could have been used for hacking;
- analyze mail server logs located in the file /var/log/exim4/mainlog for spam attempts;
- check directories for temporary files (/tmp, /var) on your hosting as scripts can use those directories for data recording;
- check the website scripts for vulnerabilities and fix them;
- update your content management system to an up-to-date version;
- use SFTP access instead of FTP for price plans featuring SSH access;
- when working with the hosting service, do not save credentials in client programs to prevent their theft.
