Domain cancellation by registrant request

Domain cancellation is the process of removing a domain from the domain name registry, which results in the domain being released and becoming available for registration by any user.

To cancel a domain, the Registrant must provide the original request to Rucenter:

• Request form for domain cancellation from an individual or individual entrepreneur.rtf
• Rules for compiling letters

The request will be processed within three business days after receiving the documents. A notification about the request being processed will be sent to the contact e-mail.

Individuals and individual entrepreneurs can send the original request:

• In person at the Rucenter office with ID;
• In person at regional branch offices;
• By mail to the postal address;
• By email to ru-edo@nic.ru, provided that it is signed with a Qualified Electronic Signature (QES).

The application must be notarized, unless the registrant personally delivers it to Rucenter office. In this case, the main ID will be enough.

A notarized application is valid for 3 months from the date of its signing and certification by a notary.

Non-resident individuals who do not reside in Russia can submit a photo or scanned copy of the notarized application from the contact email address specified in the contract of the current Registrant. The application must be accompanied by a copy of the current Registrant’s passport.

The application must be issued on behalf of the current Registrant. If the request is notarized in the national language, a notarized translation into Russian must be attached (depending on the country where notarization is performed, an apostille may be required).

If postal service is available between Russia and the individual's country of residence, the original notarized request and a copy of the current Registrant’s passport must be sent to Rucenter's postal address. Rucenter reserves the right to request additional documents and information, including photographs confirming the will of the registrant and/or their identity.

Conditions under which the registrant's request to cancel the registration of domain names registered in the .RU and .РФ domains cannot be executed:

• domain name registration period has expired;
• less than 30 (thirty) days have passed since the registrant received the domain ownership right from another person;
• less than 30 (thirty) days have passed after registrar change;
• judicial or prejudicial restraints have been imposed on the domain name;
• in case of failure to satisfy Registrar’s request to submit details and documents within a specified timeframe in accordance with Clause 9.3.7. of the Rules.
