IDNs are domain names that contain characters from national alphabets. The IDN system allows you to use characters from other languages, not limited to Latin characters.
IDN works using the Punycode encoding system, since the DNS system only accepts Latin characters. For example, you registered the domain первыйдомен.net. This domain matches a traditional Latin name xn--b1aebcstifel6j.net, which is obtained by Punycode encoding. All IDNs correspond to domains with the prefix xn--. In an IDN, you can only use those characters that belong to the alphabet of the selected language.
When you specify an IDN in the address bar, the browser converts it to Punycode and the site opens. Today, almost all browsers of the latest versions perform such a conversion, independently or with the installation of additional plugins.
Many domain zones support IDNs. The most popular ones are: .net, .com, .cc, .tv, .name, .tel, .москва, .рф, .сайт, .онлайн, .su, etc.
In the domains .net, .com, .cc, .tv, .name, .tel it is possible to register IDNs in languages that use the following alphabets: Latin, Cyrillic, Danish, Finnish, German, Swedish, Hungarian, Icelandic, Latvian, Lithuanian, Norwegian, Polish, Spanish, Korean, Japanese and Chinese characters.
Rucenter offers registration of IDNs .net, .com, .cc, .tv, .name in more than 80 languages, in the .org domain in 18 languages, and in the .tel domain in 16 languages.
